Go on new quests everyday with friends or journey alone.

Welcome back. In this update we implement the much needed Quest System which allows you to go on different adventures everyday provided from the Traders in the Town Hubs. We are testing some of the basics of this system first before adding the remaining elements. We have also started to polish the world map and added grass to our procedural system. This update lays the foundation for upcoming core features such as Bounties, Town Donations, and more excitedly Battles.

Another area we are targeting in a future update is our User Interface. We will from this moment onwards be moving to use Unity's new UI system. This will hopefully make it easier for us to add interfaces in the future as well as make changes and add more dynamic designs. The move will require us to completely rebuild the interface from the ground up, along with our new design and graphics. This will not be a quick process and has ment in this update all interfaces for quests are temporary and missing key parts such as the "Quest Started Popup" and "Quest Updated Popup". Starting and completing quests objectives will be easier to understand and see when this move takes place.

In this update we are going to start automatically restarting the servers at 02:00 GMT each evening. There are a few reasons why we are making this decision, but one key one is it allows our game servers to pick up new quest and item data without requiring a full update and better helps us test stability of certain features in short bursts.

In the meantime please help us test our Daily Tasks provided by the Carpenter and Blacksmith and enjoy the rewards.

New Features

Quest System

The quest system is an important aspect of Realms which allows players to receive quests full of objectives in order to gain rewards and progression. There are many different types of quests which can be obtained in different ways. For this update we have implemented our Main Quest and Task Quest systems. Other types of quests will be added in future updates once we are happy with the overall design implemented in this update. More information about each variety can be found in the Change Log and will be updated on the wiki.

Change Log

  • Added Quest System
    • Quests currently come in two forms; Main Story Quests and Quests.
    • Main Story quests are automatically applied to your Quest Log and help teach the key elements of the game mechanics and tell the game's overarching story. During the Alpha stages of development Main Story Quests will be used to direct players to new mechanics and systems to test.
    • The Quest log can be found in the main row of buttons in the Character menu.
    • Regular quests can be picked up from various sources in Town Hubs and discovered out in the world.
  • Added Trader Task Quests
    • Added Tier 1 (Pine) Task Quests for Carpenter
    • Added Tier 1 (Limestone/Copper) Task Quests for Blacksmith
  • Add "Quests Completed" statistic.
  • Added grass foliage to World Map.
  • Added grass foliage to POI scenes.
  • Added grass foliage to Entity Encounters.
  • Added anvil to Blacksmith shop.
  • Added new Coin Pouch Item
    • This item is a new type which uses out new "JDV" system allowing us to add custom data to items.
    • Coin pouches contain a predetermined set amount of coins from various sources.
    • Use the Item to gain the amount of coins stored in the pouch.
  • Changed coins interface icon.
  • Changed gift list to now show in order of newer gifts first.
  • Items with 0 sell cost can no longer be sold to a trader.
  • Removed Bounty Board in Town Hub. This will be re-added at a later date when game content for bounties becomes available.

Testing Notes
